Everlands is an odd game, even for the standards of Android Games. It involves placing different animals on a hexagon based battlefield to try to gain the numerical advantage. Its very much a strategy game, one gains depth with the number of different animals rather than placing the player into different scenarios.
As with most strategy games, particularly mobile strategy games, this is not a ground braking graphic heavy game. However the battlefield is well designed and clearly defined. All the animals are distinctive and designed specifically with ease of use in mind. The presentation of this game is top-notch, with the game using a map system for the levels and an explanation ready for all aspects of the game.
The game is controlled entirely through the touchscreen, giving the game a feel similar to a point and click adventure. This is designed to be used with only a single hand making it perfect for standing in a train and such. The game is responsive and given to easy design it has little chance of clicking on the wrong section.
The gameplay is easy to understand yet has surprising depth, which is necessary for a successful strategy game. The comes from an array of different animals all with different strengths and weaknesses, such as a bear being stringer and a snake always having the first attack. The different combinations allows the game to really prosper. The game is decided on who has the most animals on the board when there is no more room left.
Overall this is a good game, if somewhat slow paced. The depth that is needed for a strategy game is here with the variation in the animals and the special features. Graphically it won’t blow your mind but it is efficient and the controls are to master.
